ㅤpre-sunderingㅤ prior to joining the convocation of fourteen, hades was a quiet, short-tempered and socially awkward young man who took his studies quite seriously, refusing to partake in the social goings-on within the akadaemia - preferring old tomes and honing his skills in soul sight and creation magics to interacting with others. he could often be found in the library with his face buried in an old tome, and was highly unpopular amongst the student body due to his stern demeanor and dislike of pointless chatter.despite this, there were a few who saw through the façade and befriended him anyway - his first real friends, hythlodaeus and venat. together they managed to pry him out of his shell a little, and expanded his interests to include exploration, wine-fueled late night discussions, and camping under the stars.upon joining the convocation of fourteen and assuming the title of emet-selch, he fully committed himself to his duties and saw less and less of his friends outside of the capitol. eventually venat would step down as azem - a decision that led to hades' confusion and later exasperation due to her hand-selected replacement. though it took him a while to warm up to the new azem, he would later come to respect their judgment, and secretly enjoyed being regaled with stories of their travels. he even allowed his feelings to deepen, until an offhanded remark about not wanting a romantic entanglement to get in the way of their duty effectively quelled them. still, he would often be found gazing up at the sky after seeing them off, a rare smile gracing his usually stern features.the coming of the final days and the events that would follow irrevocably changed hades. the defection of both azem and venat were seen as a betrayal, and hurt him deeply. having to look on helplessly as hythlodaeus gave him a solemn smile and wave before turning away to sacrifice himself to zodiark, despite hades' desperate pleas to him not to go through with it, and that he was needed alive. the summoning of zodiark, the tempering of the convocation. the sundering of their world. the pure despair he felt in the immediate aftermath. the sheer confusion as to why he was spared. the heavy burden that he, elidibus and lahabrea now carried as the unsundered three; the ones everything fell upon to rejoin the reflections and restore their world to its rightful state.

ㅤpost-sunderingㅤ for thousands of years following the sundering of etheirys, due to a combination of their tempering and the fervent desire to save their brethren, emet-selch, elidibus and lahabrea worked tirelessly to rejoin the reflections. emet-selch had a hand in a myriad of imperially inclined nations, including the allagan empire and, more notably, the founding of garlemald upon possessing the body of solus zos galvus, who would become the first emperor.as solus, he took a wife and sired two children, lucius and titus. when lucius was born, he allowed himself to experience the joys of fatherhood, smiling for the first time since before the sundering. yet nothing lasts in an imperfect world, so when lucius fell ill and died at a young age, it felt as if he had lost his brethren all over again. he closed himself off completely, and was cold and seemingly uncaring toward his son titus, along with lucius' son varis. he allowed the body of solus to die at age 88, hurtling the empire into chaos by deliberately refusing to name a successor. unbeknownst to him at the time, his grandson had made clones of solus' younger body in preparation of deceiving the garlean people to avoid a civil conflict. the need for them never came, yet the clones remained in a secret facility, having been forgotten. this would later prove to be a fortunate oversight.during his period of rest, he traveled to the first - the only reflection where recognizable ruins of his beloved city of amaurot still remained. using his creation magics, he erected a magnificent reconstruction near the original site 'neath the deep, dark waters of the tempest. there, he created shades of his lost brethren, and spent numerous days and nights wandering the streets amongst the ghosts and memories of a past he may never reclaim. the loss of elidibus' memories as to the why of their duty had rattled him, so this recreation was his way of ensuring he wouldn't forget.hades' world was again turned upside-down when he was sent to the first to aid in ushering forth another calamity to rejoin the reflection with the source. rather than possess a new body, he opted to use a solus clone; both due to convenience, and so he could pay his grandson varis a visit before departing. while on the first, he encountered a shard of azem which - to his misfortune - happened to lie within claire kreiss, the warrior of light.

despite knowing it couldn't end well, he missed azem deeply, so for a moment, he allowed himself to hope that he could persuade claire to his side, provided she could prove her mettle. this effort would prove futile when she and the scions defeated him, though he couldn't help but smile at the familiar hue of azem's soul as he dissipated, his memories drifting to days of eld.upon his return to the aetherial sea, memories he hadn't been aware had been taken from him were restored, allowing him to recall the harbinger of the final days, meteion, along with hermes' deception and the erasure of his and hythlodaeus' memories of what had transpired during their visit to elpis. he was called back once more, along with hythlodaeus, by hydaelyn's magics to aid claire in saving the source from destruction, in which he assisted but ultimately chose to return to the sea with hythlodaeus, preferring not to suffer to live again by hydaelyn's magic. having been reunited with his dearest friend, they smiled at one another as they drifted along, and hades, finally content, closed his eyes.ㅤpresent dayㅤ he awoke some time later to discover that he was still adrift yet alone. his aether was considerably more dense than hythlodaeus' due to the thousands of years he had lived and thus, he hadn't dissipated as quickly and they had been separated once more. unable to rest, and more alone than he'd ever felt in life, he made a rash decision to return to the source. his original form had been lost upon his rejection of hydaelyn's magic, so he again resorted to using a solus clone to avoid ever possessing another human being.in something akin to a new start, hades spends much of his time traveling; visiting various archives to gain different perspectives on the many successes, failures and schemes he'd had a hand in through the years. sorting through his now intact memories, and reflecting on an ocean of atrocities and poor decisions. and experiencing the new world for the first time through untempered eyes. he made a home for himself in the residential district of gridania - a manor house full of books and various items he'd collected throughout his travels. he picked up botany and stargazing as hobbies, and can be found outdoors more often than not, tending the garden during the day and gazing up at the stars through a telescope on clear nights. after so many lifetimes of duty and sadness, he has finally found peace.
